It has been over a year now in this global pandemic and without a doubt, it has been very difficult for all of us.
Sustainable Milton would like to honour and thank our essential frontline workers who have been working during the pandemic.
We would like to recognize three essential frontline workers in Milton with a simple but meaningful expression of our thanks by planting a native tree or shrub on their property. If those selected don’t have property or space for a tree or shrub, we will provide a native plant(s) for their balcony, garden or stoop.
Dwayne Gilbert, a certified and knowledgeable arborist and a member of Sustainable Milton’s Board of Directors, will work with those selected through a random draw to identify the right tree, shrub or plant for the right place.
Our hope is that whatever we plant and wherever it grows, it will be a constant reminder of how appreciative and thankful we are for everything all of our heroes and heroines have done and sacrificed over the past year. With summer on the way, the budding leaves and flowers can provide hope and inspiration to our incredible heroes and heroines and others. This will also add to our environment by providing shade, shelter, and many other things to the wildlife we share this land with.
Planting is dependent on there being room for a tree or shrub both above and below ground. For smaller spaces, native plants will be offered as an alternative. Dwayne will work with each recipient to select the right tree, shrub or plant that is suitable for the location. The three recipients will be selected by random draw on June 22, 2021.
Dwayne will contact the recipients to arrange a site visit to discuss the planting locations, possible dates to plant, what to plant and how to care for it.
We at Sustainable Milton want to sincerely thank all of our essential frontline workers for going above and beyond to help everyone in our community.
